Sex, Lies, and Audiotape

In Tape, two high school pals meet 10 years later in a motel room. One is a filmmaker, the other is a drug dealer, and both walk into the reunion with accusations and confessions (which are secretly recorded). "It's about perception," explains Adrienne Moon, who's directing the Night Kitchen production opening Friday at Dobama Theatre. "And how memory, motive, and even ego can skew people's perceptions of the same events." Joining the talky duo is an ex-girlfriend, who has some revelations of her own to make about a fateful night a decade ago. "What drew me to this play was that I didn't know where it was going," says Moon. "I like a play that twists and turns and keeps the audience on its toes." Tape, which was made into a 2001 movie starring Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, is at Dobama (1846 Coventry Road in Cleveland Heights) Thursday through February 6. Commander Cody's rotating band has gone through many incarnations since it scored a Top 10 hit with "Hot Rod Lincoln" 33 years ago.
