What becomes a gossip columnist most?

Naomi Hattaway didn't have to give much of a sales pitch to throw this afternoon's Rock-n-Tot in one of downtown Cleveland's venerable nightspots. The odd idea of tween and toddling revelers taking over the club every second Saturday was enough to book the space. "The Velvet Dog was crazy excited about it," says Hattaway, a mother of three from Chagrin Falls. "The owners were way on board with turning the club over to me and saying, 'Yeah, sure, invite a bunch of rug rats in and have at it.'" That they will: On the bar's first floor, kids up to 12 years old can dance to the spins of a house DJ while noshing on pizza chased with fruit juice. The second floor will feature a curtained area for nursing moms, a TV-sports lounge for dads, and a kids' playroom with books, toys, and puzzles. Masseuses, manicurists, tattoo artists, and face painters will work the club's third floor. "We felt there was a need for this, because it's tough to find one event without my husband and I splitting up the troops and going our separate ways," says Hattaway. "I'm not going to change the world, but I would like to see the community under one roof." Rock-n-Tot runs from 1 to 4 this afternoon at the Velvet Dog, 1280 West Sixth Street in the Warehouse District. Admission is $12. Call 216-664-1116 or visit www.rock-n-tot.com.
