For amateurs itching to get on the links, the I-X Center's Greater Cleveland Golf Show is a beacon of green fairways in the gray of winter. Instead of dreaming about melting snow and the start of the golf season, duffers can scan the hundreds of booths that'll show off the latest in clubs, accessories, and attire for both casual weekend players and the ones who boast zero handicaps. They can also fine-tune their skills at a massive range installed at the Center. "They can go work on their swing and see what works for them," says Joe Stegh, the show's organizer. "We know most people haven't swung a club in months."If you need help on your technique, a bank of training booths can monitor your abilities and match you with the appropriate set of clubs. If a nagging slice is ruining your score, instructors will videotape your swing and give you a few pointers. The PGA's Northern Ohio chapter will also give free lessons to junior players. A long-drive champ, a trick-shot specialist, and Tiger Woods' swing coach will take the stage for a series of pep talks. "Golf's on TV, and it's so cold and snowy outside that people can't play," says Stegh. "They see us come to town, and it's like a big golf oasis in the winter." The Greater Cleveland Golf Show runs from 2 to 8 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the I-X Center, 6200 Riverside Drive. Admission is $9 (free for kids younger than 12). Visit www.northcoastgolfshows.com.
