Concert Review and Photos: Hozier Takes Cleveland to Church at Blossom

Blossom Music Center was transformed into a cathedral Tuesday night after a day of dangerous weather as Hozier took everyone's minds off the troubles for a few hours even as some light rain continued into the evening.

As the Unreal Unearth tour landed in Cuyahoga Falls, the amphitheater once again proved a wonderful backdrop for the acoustics and tone of our humble host's incredible voice.

As the second leg of this tour kicks off, it would be understandable for the Irish-American music star to have a little swag in his step — he's selling out almost all the shows on this tour and ‘Too Sweet’ just charted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

And we are talking leaps and bounds since the self titled release in 2014, when Andrew Hozier-Byrne was playing to crowds of a couple thousand people; a far cry from now filling out venues with capacity of 20,000.

Looking dapper in his long brown hair and sport coat, Hozier took the stage under the twilight of some singular stands of white stage lights.

As the band came more into view, the purple and blue lights bouncing off their silhouettes entranced the crowd as the soft guitar picking of De Selby opened the show.

What followed was a massive set of 18 songs in the main set and a solid encore of five songs, many of which became full crowd singalongs.

From ‘Dinner & Diatribes’ to ‘Like Real People Do,’ and the most recent crowd-pleaser ‘Too Sweet,’ Cleveland was graced with an amazing set. The humbleness really struck after Hozier finished playing ‘Too Sweet’ as he almost bashfully made mention of the song's recent success, as if not wanting to make a big deal of it.

The figurative stained glass windows of this Cathedral we call Blossom were bound to shatter with the roars of the crowd as Hozier finished the main set with ‘Take Me to Church,’ a song that made waves in Ireland as did his support of gay marriage.

After a brief rest, the band came back to open the encore with ‘Cherry Wine’ and closed the show with ‘Work Song.’  Here's all the action we caught.
